Follow Up Email is a Shopify app that sends automated emails to your customers based on their actions in your store — like leaving without buying, placing an order, or going a long time without coming back. You set up the emails once, and the app handles the rest.
What the app does
The app works by creating "campaigns" (called rules) that watch for specific customer events and automatically send an email after a delay you choose. For example, you can send a cart reminder 1 hour after someone abandons their checkout, or a win-back email 30 days after a customer's last order.
There are 10 types of email campaigns available:
- Abandoned Checkout — for shoppers who left without completing checkout
- Lapsed Customers — for customers who haven't ordered in a while
- Review Request — ask for a review after a fulfilled order
- Order Is Placed — when an order is created (before payment)
- Order Is Paid — when payment is confirmed
- Marketing Opt-In / First Order — for new subscribers or first-time buyers
- Order Is Cancelled — when an order is cancelled
- Order Is Pending — when payment is pending or awaiting confirmation
- Order Is Fulfilled — when an order ships
- Order Not Fulfilled Yet — if an order hasn't shipped within a set time
Navigating the app
Once installed, access the app from your Shopify admin at Apps → Follow Up Email. The left sidebar shows all 10 email campaign types, plus Email History, Plans, and Settings.
Click any campaign type to see the campaigns you have active for that trigger, and to create new ones.
Your first campaign
The Abandoned Checkout section comes pre-loaded with three example campaigns (1 hour, 1 day, and 3 days after abandonment). These are a great starting point — you can edit them or simply turn them on to start recovering revenue immediately.
To activate a campaign, click it to open the editor and make sure it's enabled. To create a new campaign for any email type, click the + Create campaign button on that section's page.
How email quotas work
Each plan includes a monthly email quota that resets on your billing cycle date. Emails count toward your quota when they are sent — not when a campaign is triggered. If you reach your quota, emails will pause until the next billing cycle. You can upgrade your plan at any time from the Plans page inside the app.
