Before activating a campaign, you can send yourself a test email to preview exactly how it will look in an inbox. This is the best way to catch formatting issues, check merge tags, and verify your branding before any real customer sees the email.
How to send a test email
- Open the campaign you want to test in the editor.
- Click the Send test email button.
- The test email will be sent to the address configured in your Settings under "Test email address." Make sure that address is set before testing.
Setting your test email address
Your test email address is configured in the app's Settings page. Go to Settings → Test email address and enter the email where you'd like to receive test sends. This address is only used for test emails — it is never shown to customers.
What to check in a test email
- Sender name and address — does it show your brand name in the "From" field?
- Subject line — does it look right? Check any merge tags are rendering correctly.
- Logo and branding — is your logo displaying at the right size and quality?
- Button color — does it match your brand?
- Links — click all buttons and links to make sure they go to the right destinations
- Mobile rendering — open the test email on your phone to check how it looks on mobile
- Merge tag rendering — test emails use sample data, so check that merge tags display placeholder values that make sense
Tip: Test in multiple email clients
Emails render differently in Gmail, Apple Mail, Outlook, and mobile apps. If you can, open your test email in at least Gmail and your phone's mail app to catch any rendering differences before going live.
Test emails don't count against your quota
Test emails are not counted toward your monthly email quota. You can send as many test emails as you need while setting up your campaigns.
