The "Order Is Pending" campaign triggers when an order's payment status is pending — meaning the order has been created but payment has not yet been confirmed. This typically happens with payment methods like bank transfers, cash on delivery, or certain international payment gateways.
When it triggers
This campaign fires when Shopify creates an order with a payment status of pending. It is not triggered for standard credit card or instant payment orders, which are marked as paid immediately.
Use cases
- Payment instructions reminder — remind customers of the steps needed to complete their payment (e.g., bank transfer details)
- Order confirmation — reassure the customer that their order has been received and is awaiting payment
- Nudge to complete payment — if a customer hasn't paid within a day or two, a follow-up reminder can help close the sale
Setting a delay
For an immediate acknowledgment, set the delay to 0 or a few minutes. For a payment reminder nudge, a delay of 24–48 hours is common — enough time for a customer to act on their initial intent without forgetting about the pending order.
Filtering
If you only want to contact customers with pending orders above a certain value, use the order total filter in Filters and Targeting.
